AB OBJECT: To get a clear understanding of the sexuality and psychosocial
make-up of men, directly or indirectly linked with the circuit of men
who have sex with men; so as to enable to develop stratagies
specifically targetting this senstive group. METHOD: Using a team of 3
men, from the circuit conducted a series of 100 odd in-depth interviews
to get an insight of the way men perceive themselves and then sexually
and other men in this circuit. Focus group meetings were also conducted
so that these men could have a frank and free discussions. CONCLUSION:
Perceptions of themselves and the other men from the circuit, varied
according to the group these men belonged to namely, Alis (or
transexuals), Danga (or the homosexuals), Double-Deckers (those with a
mental female identity, and more gay-identified) and finally the Panthis
(the hetro sexual male who indulged in sex with other men also).
Knowledge and percepions of gay indentified life style or community is
almost absent. Men do not see themselves in such a context, the sexual
activities are being directly preferred a way of being.
